RV Parts, How do I know what I need?

RV parts departments generally need some basic information in order to make sure you get the correct part. Consider that an RV is mostly assembled by the Brand name that is on it. It is actually a bunch of different suppliers products and there normally is no master list. Some manufacturers do keep up with what was placed in their products but it is somewhat rare.

Manufacturer, model, serial, and sometimes product or RPO, part, or even SKU.

Wow, that is a lot of basic information. Where can I find all of that information? Before I answer that let me ask, If you find the numbers for the toilet do you really want to change that valve yourself? If so great, if not we can still help. First, all the suppliers put a data plate on their product. When talking about appliances, generally if they have a door the data plate will be located inside. On water heaters the door is outside, refrigerators it will be the door inside, RV fridges have a door outside as well. Toilets will be located at the rear, a mirror or selfie may make it easier to locate. On ranges you lift the lid where the burners are if they are not sealed burners, then its in the oven, if there is no oven then you have a cooktop that must be removed to locate the data plate. Some things have many pieces scattered around the RV. The most scattered or spread out part would be the leveling system. There will be actuators, or jacks; cables or hoses, control box(s). Each of these smaller parts of the whole will also have, many times, their own part numbers. On slide outs we find the same scenario. Awnings and slide toppers can be generic or specifically built to fit your RV.
